The first race saw the boys and girls under 11 years run around one lap of the course set out by local resident and athletic club member eilidh Nolan. The Nolan family had prepared the course, organized the arrangements, received cooperation from Harmeny and Corstorphine officials and laid out a course worthy of a good competition. A parent of two Harmeny athletes said "Beautiful day, sun shining, the boys are looking forward to it, now we’re here we know where it is and we'll be back."
The second race partnered both 13 and 15 year old boys and girls in a two lap race. An organising spokesman for Harmeny Athletics Club said "Fantastic day, great for the local youths, cheering the kids on, really positive." A crowd of more than one hundred parents, relatives and friends of the 43 competitors cheered everyone home. A parent of a young Corstorphine competitor said "It was a really good family day out, and my daughter enjoyed the course and says she would come again." Well, young lady, please do and bring that cup back as Corstorphine won this inaugural event but local residents want to see this as an annual competition to use this space effectively in the future. Maybe, next year it will be Harmeny’s turn to lift the trophy.
Ronnie and Helena Nolan wished to acknowledge the support of Juniper Green CC who sponsored the cup and medals for the first three athletes home in every race. Help on the day was provided by local residents and members of Juniper Green CC who came along to cheer on the juniors and help with the organisation and marshalling duties. An all round great team effort by all involved.
