On August 12th thirteen Juniper Green residents opened their gardens to the public. The community garden at MacKay's Wood was also on display as part of the event. You could have taken tea to the sound of jazz music, kissed a frog in hope, bought some local honey, spotted 24 rabbits, shared murderous thoughts towards slugs, seen prize winning broad beans, taken a flight in a blue spaceship, played a game of vicious croquet, fallen in any one of six garden ponds, sniffed delicious compost heaps, met at least 13 whacky enthusiasts and admired their colourful, creative and highly individual gardens. Perhaps you were among the two hundred and fifty plus who did!

Home-made banners were very successful for the publicity of events like Gardens Open Day

As usual, publicity had been well prepared in advance with a poster in the shops and a banner on the railings on Lanark Road.

Lady Mary Murray returned to Juniper Green after 300 years to help with publicity for the Gardens Open event

But, on the day itself, Lady Mary Murray made an appearance to publicise the event to passing motorists. Mary had not been seen in the area since her death in 1702 but thanks to some local artist she came to life for just one more day!
