Juniper Green 300 --- The Grand Finale
6th October 2007

The Portobello Ceilidh Band

This special year for Juniper Green will end with a real flourish! We are having the Portobello Ceilidh Band (a seriously excellent group) for the ceilidh on November 17th starting at 8pm in Hall 1 of Juniper Green Parish Church. Tickets priced at a modest £10 including supper are available from Scott's the butchers or Al Borgo. But be quick as they are going fast!

A bargain ticket for the ceilidh

A St Andrew's Night plus 1 is planned for Saturday 1st December (of course!) in Juniper Green Village Hall when the Savoy Singers will entertain from 7.30pm.

Activity in the church hall after the community service on November 18th

More reflectively, there will be a non-denominational community church service on the morning of November 18th (the actual birthday of the name of the village back in 1707) at 10.30 am in Juniper Green Parish Church. It will give us a chance to consider what we have learned from our special year and consider what has made it memorable.

The Rudsambee Choir in full voice

Meanwhile, in October we had a wonderful concert from the Rudsambee choir who explored 300 years in song, humorously and in harmony, ranging over topics that included midges, puddocks and that fond kiss from Burns.

An in-depth exploration of paper-making in Juniper Green by a team from the Sapphire Project at Napier University started a short Autumn series of talks. Then, on October 26th Richard Watt, stalwart member of the JG300 Diggers research group, outlined the social history to be gleaned from a couple of novels written in the 1850s said to be set in Juniper Green. Richard will also lead an autumn eco-walk around the village starting at MacKay's Wood at 2pm on Sunday 28th October.
