Hunter's House on the Lanark Road

The house was built in 1825 by Dr James Hunter, a surgeon from Colinton, on land 25 falls Scottish measure [approximately 1000 square yards] purchased from Sir James Foulis Baronet of Woodhall. James married Miss Isabella Gray of 1 Hailes Street, Edinburgh in 1853 but unfortunately died in 1854! His wife sold the house for £430 in 1855. The house was later named "Rose Villa" but in 1960 that was changed to "Hunter's House".

The last previous owners were Reverand Robert Murray Leishman and Honourable Marista Muriel Leishman. Marista's book "Lord Reith, my father" was published recently.
