The Tennis Club

The opening of Juniper Green Tennis Club

Juniper Green Tennis Club has existed for over one hundred years. The courts are sited on the corner of Baberton Avenue and Belmont Road. The two tennis courts and the clubhouse were preserved in 1989 after a vigorous local community campaign to retain this facility for the inhabitants of Juniper Green (an article from the local press at the time is displayed on this website).

The fight to keep the tennis courts in Juniper Green

The picture accompanying this story is taken from a postcard with the caption "The opening of Juniper Green Tennis Club". This has puzzled those who have looked at the image as the hills do not appear to be the right background for the photograph to have been taken in the grounds of the tennis club. However, on studying the houses in the background and probably because the crowd is so large it is thought that this photograph has been taken in the nearby Bloomiehall Park.
