For over forty years Bert Porteous served in the shop on Lanark Road. When he retired he was given a small gift from the Village Association and typically he used the money to buy roses for the garden... so they could be enjoyed by all the villagers as they passed by the house. The shop reverted to a private house over twenty years ago.
