You could say that this whole site, and the accompanying booklet is about the history of Baberton Mains. In the conventional sense people think of history as what rulers did, when wars occurred and what battles were won. However, that definition falls short and history is much richer and wider than that. It encompasses all people and events as the material here and in the booklet attempt to reflect. It records the ways in which the land outside and now inside Edinburgh have evolved and how the people connected to it lived and worked. Here are a couple of apt quotes which reflect the ethos of what we tried to do:-.

"If history were taught in the form of stories, it would never be forgotten." - Rudyard Kipling
