Reminiscences

Forty years of Baberton Mains Wimpey Estate in the words of its residents

Helen Ogg and Liz Beevers asked for people’s stories about Baberton Mains. They recorded residents, those who helped build the estate and those who watched it develop. Some homeowners have stayed since the beginning and others left after a few years. All had interesting stories to tell.
Reading their accounts you can build a picture of why people chose a house on a brand new Wimpey estate and how they built their community around them. It becomes clear what people like about living on Baberton and how it has developed over the years. And what they feel is lacking!
Reminiscers were recorded digitally, their words transcribed and returned to them as text. They could add or delete as they wished before giving permission for their stories to appear here and in the book “Baberton Mains Past and Present” as a contribution to our local history.
Read on and see if your memories are similar. Or indeed send us your own stories and anecdotes about the estate.
