Location
Parks are for people, but they are also for sport and Juniper Green’s Bloomiehall Park which marks its 100th birthday this year is no exception. Juniper Green Community Council have organised a Five-a-side Football Centenary Cup Tournament in the Park on
- Monday May 28; and
- Wednesday May 30;
with a cup final on
- Friday June 1.
Games will kick-off from 7pm onwards and, following Friday night’s final which kicks off at 7.30pm, a football celebrity with Juniper Green connections will present the Centenary Cup to the winning team. Hopefully, the five-a-side tournament will become a regular annual feature in the community and be eagerly contested by local teams anxious to win or hold the Centenary Cup for another year.
Local amateur football sides have long played regular fixtures in the park following World War 1, often raised from local pub regulars such as the Kinleith Thistles and the Juniper Thistles who used to change in Bennet’s Bar, today the Juniper Inn. It will be good to hear the thud of boot on leather in the park once again and to see adults of all ages and possibly genders enjoying football in the open air.
Come along and support and enjoy this fun event in our park and helps us mark its 100th anniversary.
