What was left of Watt's Snuff Mill in the early 1990s

Keep west along the Water of Leith walkway. Follow the track of the 1874 railway and mind the place where the bank slid away some years ago. Go to almost the back of St Margaret's Court where there are railings on either side. Look down to your right and you will see you are standing on a small bridge. The little white patch of wall, the hole in the ground and the lade's stonework are all that is left of Watt's snuff mill, built in 1763 and closed down around 1943. It made three grades of snuff (black, brown and imperial!) and was the last snuff mill on the river. Further along the railway the big brick building stands on the site of the former Juniper Green railway station.
