The 1815 stone

The 1815 stone. Some of the stone houses would have provided shelter to the early traveller. You would be glad to reach these solid houses after the long pull up from Slateford. It was a slow, dangerous climb from the city to cross the Currie Muir and there were robbers then willing to take your money and ride off as was reported in "The Scotsman" of 1841. You might be lightened of your possessions as you panted from your long climb unable to pursue the robbers down "Thieves Road" to Corstorphine.
